As another year of University draws to a close, whether you’re moving out of halls or finishing your degree we all need to look after the city we love. I chatted to Sustainability Manager Lizzie Larner to find out more about Leave Liverpool Tidy.
What is Leave Liverpool Tidy?
We’ve already had loads of people dropping off items at our donation points – many thanks to all those who have already donated! Last year we collected 1494 bags of donations, raising over £17000 for BHF and 910kg of food and we’re hoping to reach similar numbers again this year.
What items can people donate?
You can donate: clothes, jackets, shoes, accessories, books, small working electricals (smaller than a microwave), plates, cups and cutlery and unopened in date food such as tins, jars and packets.
Unfortunately we cannot accept: duvets, pillows, knives, socks / underwear or any broken or dirty items.
Green LLT donation bags can be picked up from Guild and Halls receptions.
Where can items be donated?
We have donation points across campus including all the Halls of Residence receptions and Guild reception. Books and food can be dropped off at the Harold Cohen and Sydney Jones libraries. There are also BHF banks at Peach Street Car Park, Vine Court, Dover Court and Greenbank Halls.
What’s happening on Leave Liverpool Tidy in the community days?
On 29th and 30th June, Guild and uni volunteers will be heading out into Kensignton and Smithdown to collect donations and litter pick. We’ll be based at ASDA Smithdown Road and Kensington Fields Community Centre from 10am – 3pm if you want to drop off your donations directly to us. Otherwise, you can leave your donations out for us to collect – please make sure they are clearly labelled and to make sure we definitely collect them you can email lgsustainability@liverpool.ac.uk with your address and a contact number by 12pm on 25th June.
Are there any other ways to get involved with Guild Sustainability?
There will be loads of sustainability volunteering opportunities coming up when term starts again in September such as helping out in our Swap Shop or taking part in Guild Schools – keep your eye out on our volunteering page for upcoming opportunities.
