Running Liverpool’s 2026 Half Marathon With a Physical Impairment

If someone would’ve told me a year ago that I would complete Liverpool Half 2026, I would have laughed in their face… well, maybe after recovering from the shock. This never seemed possible to me, due to receiving a diagnosis of cerebral palsy at two years old; predominantly affecting my left leg.

The diagnosis was followed by numerous operations, physio appointments, unparticipated sport’s days, and certainly lots of self doubt. Amongst any sport field or PE class, I always felt different.

Despite this, what began as something I did on a Saturday morning, quickly snowballed into a treasured passion. Friendship-forming, confidence-building, or deadline stress-relieving; running has helped me on so many intersectional levels.

Thanks to my treatment received from the NHS and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, I feel so proud and privileged to have been able to complete Liverpool’s Half Marathon in March.

Through publishing for LGSM, I hope to give comfort to or inspire others with physical impairments to not let your disabilities limit your personal goals or aims that may feel unachievable!
