Hiya all.
Polsoc is the society to meet new people and make the most out of university. We’re inclusive to all (regardless of degree!) and have a lot planned for you. We’ll host a mixture of informal and formal events ranging from large pub crawls, to talks from those in the industry of public interest, to cake-baking.
Polisoc will host a variety of collaborations across the year, introducing you to new societies and activities across the university and beyond. In the works are collaborations with: ModelUN, BakeSoc, DebateSoc, LGSM (the student union’s media outlet), FilmSoc, and CocktailSoc. Across these events, you will get a chance to join new social circles, develop new interests, nurture skills employers value, and of course, have fun.
There’ll be the biggest themed pub crawls, fundraisers for local community projects to get involved in, opportunities to network with cross-industry professionals, and a range of other events and activities to meet new people. We’ll host formals (good chance to put on a nice suit/dress) and debates between students and lecturers (better than they seem at first glance).
As the umbrella society for politics, we are non-partisan. Whilst we warmly encourage democratic discourse, the society itself will not endorse any ideological stances, opinions, or sides; it will remain committed to being an open space for civil discussion. We won’t choose between cats or dogs, but we will facilitate the debate! Although, in this case, the answer is clearly cats.
We are among the biggest and most diverse societies on campus. We aim to provide something for everyone. You won’t regret joining – memberships are free and there’s no pressure to attend. Make the most of your time at university!
