Listen
Oh Bertram stead of golden hue
Together we gently glide
Through bustling streets and open countryside
In your steadfast presence joy I pursue.
Heavy you are yet loyal and true
With every pedal stroke my spirits renew.
Your frame a canvas of sunlit gold
tells tales of travels both brave and bold.
From Hassled and hurried journeys to 9 o'clock lectures
to wobbly and weary returns from public house adventures.
Each scratch and dent a memory of stories untold.
Your tyres roll with a rhythm so slow
though swift you are not dear Bertram my friend
your dependability is a gift without end.
Your gears may groan but they never fail
propelling me onward through every vale.
In your gentle embrace I find my peace,
a bond unbroken a trust that won't cease.
Your lack of numberplate is sometimes handy
for at traffic lights when haste is my plight
you slip through unnoticed a welcome delight.
Though other students laugh as they see us ride
we beat them all as the 699 is never on time.
With you dear Bertram we conquer the streets,
a joyful victory that's oh so sweet.
Oh Bertram my bicycle so yellow and bright
together we journey from morning till night.
With every mile we ride my heart fills with pride
for in your company I joyfully glide.
A ding-a-ring-a-ding your bell does sing.
So sad we can't pedal on year after year.
To you Bertram my ode I bestow
for the time has come for me to go.
So this is my ode to you Bertram my old faithful friend,
Thank you
Thank you
and thanks again.
