It is truly undeniable that Olivia Dean has had a breakthrough in the music industry, especially after her album The Art of Loving was released in September 2025. Her style of music is fresh and unique, as she writes emotionally vulnerable lyrics, accompanied by vibrant instrumentals and production. Her creative success is admirable, and she has proven to be a great inspiration to her fans.
Olivia’s music largely appeals to people because of the balance between vulnerability and positivity which she displays in her lyricism. Her album The Art of Loving explores the complexities of life and love but reassures listeners that healing and self-acceptance is achievable, despite the obstacles that life brings them. The comforting nature of Olivia’s music is perhaps what attracts so many fans, as she provides a relatable listening experience for many.
The emotional honesty which Olivia displays in her music is also brought to her interviews where she shares her outlook on life, and the importance of sharing love whether that is romantic or platonic.
‘Maybe romantic love isn’t the forefront of your life right now, but love exists in so many forms, it’s in your friendships, it’s in strangers, it’s in your parents…there is so much love to be shared and, in the world right now I think we need reminding of that’. – (Olivia Dean discussing her album The Art of Loving in an interview with Apple Music)
Her ability to encapsulate such a wide range of emotions is inspiring to others and encourages them to appreciate the little things in life such as their friendships. Her song ‘I’ve Seen It’ suggests that love can be found everywhere and people should seek to appreciate it in their everyday lives, rather than focusing solely on large romantic gestures.
Following the 2025 movie release of the Bridget Jones: Mad about a Boy, Olivia’s song ‘It isn’t perfect, but it might be’ gained huge popularity as it encapsulated the themes of the film. The lyrics explore the idea of allowing yourself to love again after experiencing grief and accepting that things will work out in the future, despite behind haunted by the past. Although the film delves into the life of a grieving widow, it is still an uplifting feel-good watch, which is accompanied by Olivia’s song.
It isn’t unknown that Olivia attended the prestigious BRIT school for Performing Arts and Technology, which is well known for producing global stars such as Adele, Tom Holland and RAYE. Whilst the school provided her with the practical skills to start her career, it is her own talent and personal flare which has allowed her to flourish in her creative journey, exemplified by her recent success at the 2026 GRAMMY awards, where she won the award for Best New Artist.
Following her success at the GRAMMY awards, Olivia also proved to be popular at the 2026 BRIT Awards held in Manchester, where she won 4 awards including Song of the Year for her collaboration with Sam Fender, a song called ‘Rein Me In’. People across social media have described this song as evoking feelings of traditional British nostalgia as it carries a charming vibe to it. The lyrics explore fear surrounding love and emotional vulnerability whilst the instrumental is catchy and lively, adding to this nostalgic feel.
The colourful, wholesome branding which Olivia has created for herself is also a large reason for her success. The soft colour palette of her fashion paired with the vintage photography which she posts creates a sense of timelessness, adding to the existing nostalgia which her music already brings.
In terms of live performance, Olivia connects with her audience whilst bringing excellent energy to the stage, creating an uplifting atmosphere for audiences. The blend of her powerful, raw vocals with her confessional lyrics creates a live performance worth watching, and fans are excited for her upcoming tour, along with the several summertime festivals she is set to perform at.
Overall, Olivia Dean’s vulnerable lyricism and vibrant sound is what makes her so unique, and fans are grateful for this fresh approach she has brought to the music. I’m sure her millions of Spotify listeners are thankful for the inspiration she has brought to them and are excited for her future music releases.
