Can you sum up your campaign in under 10 words?
Let’s make our campus ethical, affordable, and accessible!
What made you decide to run for officer?
I’ve been politically active ever since I went to college. Back then, I joined the youth climate movement and was elected to my Student Union as Vice President. Since coming to Liverpool, I have remained passionate about social justice. I believe the Guild has such potential to champion the rights of its students, but to do that, it needs a team of officers willing to do more than offer kind words. As an activist at heart, I want to lead a Guild which fights for its members and finally rids our campus of unethical companies. But more importantly, I want the student experience to be as affordable as possible.
How have you been involved with the Guild during your time at uni?
I’ve been involved with several campaigns at the Guild over the years. In 2023, I helped organise the Boycott Bacardi campaign, which aimed to stop the sale of Bacardi products at the Guild and replace them with ethical alternatives. A year later, I campaigned for Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS), which we won with an overwhelming majority. Most recently, I submitted a petition to the Guild calling for a referendum on our membership of the National Union of Students (NUS), which we believed to be undemocratic and bad value for our money. Yesterday, we won that referendum by an 83% landslide.
In 2023, I was part of the Guild’s Mini Spend-It Committee, a student-led panel which reviews financial bids from societies and awards grants up to £350. In 2024, I was elected as one of the Guild’s delegates to the NUS National Conference. I’ve also been involved with societies over the years, including Left Society and Decolonise UoL.
What’s your favourite spot in Liverpool?
The Dispensary on Renshaw Street does a lovely pint of Beamish. But in the summer, it has to be Sefton Park.
