Sierra Veins in Conversation

Sierra Veins launched her career in music with singles such as ‘Gone’ and ‘Unbroken,’ and has since then continued to push the boundaries of EBM. Her new album ‘In the Name of Blood’ was released in November of 2025, and explores themes of identity and self-development following her name change earlier last year. She is touring around Edinburgh, Manchester, and London from 5-7th March, performing this empowering new album. Sierra is constantly changing and pushing the boundaries of her producing and music. I was lucky enough to be able to interview her and deep dive into identity alongside her.

How did you first get into writing and producing music?

I started writing music at the age of 14 so it was really bad, I only started doing it seriously from 20. I’d always written music but in different styles. I was drawn to Electronica for its darker songs and emotions created.

What drew you to writing music in the electronica style?

The dark vibe. When I realised electronica was not all about dancing in clubs but the darker vibes, I was drawn to its intensity and power. This is what I really loved about it, that you could do something really intense.

What is your creative process like?

Complex, hard. I don’t have one set process its different and complicated each time. Sometimes I have the lyrics first but not very often. I think about the visuals before writing music, or the direction I want to take. Sometimes I start by the lyrics, or the melody part but it depends on my mood at the time.

What message do you hope your new album conveys to listeners?

It depends on what they want to hear. I don’t really have a message for the people; I just want to write. It’s cool when they find a message in the music or lyrics but not necessary for me. For me I wanted to write something about you have to find your own identity, people can’t tell you who you are, you have to find this for yourself. Some may only hear the music and not the message themselves and I’m okay with that too.

Do you find it hard to find your identity within music and the industry itself?

Yeah, I definitely find that it can be hard. I can’t really talk about the industry in general as my music is a bit separate than what is played on the radio. It’s hard. I find that my identity is always changing. I’ve just released ‘In the Name of Blood’ album and am already writing music that is different from this. It’s hard to just stay in one lane, so I don’t.

What is the biggest lesson your music has taught you?

So many things. To never give up. It is hard to produce and manage a project alone. You have many amazing moments that are happening. It’s difficult when you have something that you didn’t expect. The most important thing is to remember why you are doing this, I love producing music, and this keeps me going when it gets hard. So yeah, the main thing is just to never give up and remind myself why I am doing this.

Do you find it hard to reconcile your stage identity with who you are at home and with friends or family?

It can be weird. I’m a different person at home than I am on stage and writing music. The person I am on stage, I wish I could bring into my personal life more. It is a part of me that is stronger and more confident. I feel so super confident on stage and sometimes I can be so shy in my personal life. It can be a silly situation when I’m not on stage that I just get very shy and I’m like how I am so shy there when I’m so confident performing in front of 1000 people. But both are a part of me.

Did you always believe that you would be able to make a career out of music?

I’ve always wanted to do something in the artistic world, so a career in music. When I was twenty, I was unsure how I was going to launch a career in music because I knew nothing about music and didn’t know anyone who could help me. So instead, I worked some stupid jobs that I didn’t like for a few years. I started to get sad, frustrated and not happy. Then I just decided to work like crazy to learn how to produce music and meet the right people.

Do you prefer working with collaborators or by yourself?

I prefer working by myself, I love being alone. I’m the kind of person who can stay at home and not see anyone for a whole weekend and that is completely fine for me. It’s hard to work with people, I have to find people who understand who I am, my artistic direction and how I work. Sometimes I’ve found these kinds of people and sometimes I’ve tried and it didn’t work because they didn’t understand me and how I work. It’s amazing when I find the right people, but it is not natural for me.

What are your hopes for the future? Do you have any milestones you would like to hit?

Yeah, my goal life would be to compose a song track. That was one of the things that I wanted when I started Sierra. I started this music with a kind of cinematographic inspiration because my goal life was to say to the filmmakers hey, I’m here. But it’s hard to find a place in the world, because there are a lot of people and I haven’t had the opportunity yet, this is my dream. This is my dream, more than doing another album or doing shows. So, let’s see what will happen.

If you had to name a song that best represents your life at the moment, what would it be?

A song that is not mine? Oh, I don’t know, it’s a good question. It’s so hard. Let’s see what I’m listening to right now. ‘I will survive’, It’s a song that is happy, a celebrating song. The lyrics are so deep and sad. I wouldn’t say it represents my life, but I like that it’s sad and it’s like let’s make something happy. My lyrics are not happy, but I try to make them something inspiring for other people. So, let’s go for that ‘I will survive.’
