River of Light is back in Liverpool’s city centre from Friday 24 October to Sunday 2 November and this year’s theme is The Science of Light. Ten incredible installations, some interactive, illuminate the city’s waterfront, transforming familiar spaces into glowing works of art.
Crowds gathered on opening night to discover the new displays, each one inspired by a different field of science, from nature and technology to outer space. Without giving too much away, my personal favourites were Dandelion and Embrace (both pictured). Each installation is unique, and beautiful in it’s own way.
Quiet hours are also returning to make the event more accessible for visitors with additional needs. They’ll take place on Sunday, October 26, and Wednesday, October 29, from 4pm to 5pm. Liverpool City Council says these dedicated times will offer a more peaceful atmosphere for those with additional sensory needs to explore the artworks.

A true Liverpool staple, the River of Light is the perfect way to enjoy these darker evenings. With hot chocolate stations and cafes lining the route, it’s an ideal spot for an autumnal stroll, a perfect activity before the chaotic lead up to Christmas.
