Here are my top recommendations for a cosy November read:
Anxious People – Fredrik Backman (translated by Neil Smith)
Anxious People follows a failed bank robbery that unexpectedly turns into a hostage situation during an apartment viewing. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the characters are all connected in surprising ways, and Backman explores some tough themes but with humour . It’s a short, well-paced read and it’s perfect for curling up on a rainy November afternoon. I can’t wait to pick up his new novel, My Friends, which I’ve heard amazing things about

Atmosphere – Taylor Jenkins Reid
I am a big fan of TJR. She has written some incredible books over the last few years including The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Carrie Soto is Back. Atmosphere centres on a female astronaut during the 1980s space shuttle programme and how she navigates her position in NASA and her relationships. If you like sci-fi and romance, this is perfect for you!

Open Water – Celeb Azumah Nelson
This beautifully written book (you’ll get what I mean when you start it!) is all about two young Black people who meet in a pub and embark on a wonderful love story. The book deals with themes such as race, love and masculinity and it is told from a second person point of view, which is something that I’d never experienced in a book before but absolutely loved. It’s also not too long so it’s perfect for anyone who is in a reading slump and needs some inspiration.

The Bee Sting- Paul Murray
This is the best book I’ve read so far this year. It tells the story of an Irish family who are all dealing with their own struggles. One of the major themes of the book is the climate crisis and I think this makes it an even more relevant read. It has moments of drama, sadness and love- all of which make it an incredible read. I will forever recommend it to anyone who will listen!
