Coronavirus confirmed in Liverpool

The first case of coronavirus has been reported in the city of Liverpool. The news was reported through the University of Liverpool’s Facebook page and via University email communication to students. The message advises that the University is monitoring the situation closely and recommends that students and staff should continue as usual. This is reflected in all services operating as usual.

The NHS recommends that people take the following steps to avoid catching or spreading the virus:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water often (they recommend doing this for at least 20 seconds)
  • Always wash your hands when coming to and from home/work/university
  • use hand sanitiser if soap and water are not available
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough/sneeze (not your hands)
  • Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell
  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

The University has made clear that students should continue as usual despite the confirmed case in Liverpool. Additionally, the University is releasing regular communications to students, so make sure to check your emails and other uni communications regularly for any changes.
